In November 2006, Dr. Woodie J. Stevens assumed responsibilities as global director of Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International for the Church of the Nazarene. Prior to his election, he served as the New Mexico district superintendent for over 12 years. Dr. Stevens was senior pastor of Colorado Springs First Church from 1987-1994 and served as pastor in Mundelein, Illinois (1978-1987) and Vermillion, South Dakota (1976-1978).
MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) awarded, Dr. Stevens, a Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) in 1973. He graduated with honors from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1976, earning his Master of Divinity degree, and was ordained in 1978. He earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1982. He is a graduate of the School of Large Church Management, an extensive three-year management training program. In 1998, MidAmerica Nazarene University recognized Dr. Stevens as Alumnus of the Year and in 2009 honored him with an outstanding alumnus award from the School of Religion and Philosophy.

Dr. Stevens served the denomination as general NYI president from 1985 to 1989. He has been a contributing editor to Bread magazine and authored an evangelistic appeal entitled How to Fill the Emptiness. His most recent published works include Pursuing the Mission, Beyond Sunday, and Every Paul Needs A Timothy. For two months in 2005, Dr. Stevens was immersed in Spanish language study in Antigua, Guatemala. He has traveled extensively, speaking in 40 different countries at camp meetings, conventions, seminars and revivals.
Born in North Platte, Nebraska, Dr. Stevens lived there until leaving for Olathe, Kansas, to attend MNU. While at MNU he met his wife, Cheryl (Hancock). Dr. and Mrs. Stevens have two married children, a son and a daughter, and six grandchildren.
